Rough cut (evaluation)
This post will be an evaluation of our rough cut of our movie, which is called 'the escaping'.
Our rough cut is not exactly what we had in mind for our video. In this rough cut, there is no music at the background. Which really would've added the 'horror' side to it. However, there are good things which have been included in the rough cut. Firstly we started our video off by showing the view, this is known as a establishing shot. It allows the audience to know that this is where most of our scenes are going to take place. By doing this it creates a creepy atmosphere as it is in the woods. The next scene was our main character running, and the camera moving with her, running with her to create the sense of fear. The build up of something about to happen. After that we used a low angle, which was covered with twigs, and branches and you can see our character running past. This angle is known as a low angle. We used a close up angle, to show the blood which was splattered over the cloth. We used slow motion for when our character was running down steps, this was used to show that something is waiting for her at the end of it.. We used a medium shot, to show the anonymity of our killer and just to show the weapon. This allows the audience to understand why the character was running away and who she was running away from. We used birds eye view angle, this was used to show that our character was held hostage and blindfolded. We also used a medium angle for when our character was blindfolded in another scene. This was very effective as you could see the blood on the blindfold which creates a sense of panic. Lastly we used a low angle for when our character was held hostage and sitting on the chair. The struggle and the pool of blood behind conveyed the message that she was in grave danger.
The quality of our camerawork is not at the professional standard, however we did use correctly to show different emotions when we wanted too. When were filming the running scene, the camera could've ben more focused and still as looking back it is very shaky. Also when we showing our scary objects, and the bloodied cloth, the camera jiggered when it should've been a smooth shot.
In my opinion, I think we used lighting very effectively. When we were outside filming in the park we had natural lighting and the surrounding made it the shots have more of a creepy/horror feel to it. However when we were filming inside, we used a dark room with only a phone light which definitely re-created a hostage scene. The sense of danger and terror.
For our movie, all we needed was a character who is a female and of small build. All we needed from our actress is simply running through the forest, and be tied up/blindfolded. So our chosen actress did excel in this part. However, even though she was simply running, to show our audience we needed to that she was scared, and running out of fear not because she fancied a run.
The use of mise en scene was used effectively. Firstly, our locations we had 2. So the audience know that inside scene were to show the character abducted and held hostage. The outside scene show how she tried to escape and get far away from him. The reason why we used a forest as one of our location, is because of the fact a convention of a horror movie is the use of forest/woods, so as a group we decided to conform to this stereotype so our audience can easily identify the fact that it is a horror movie straight away.
