Mini Clips (Production) Task 46

This is another shot of our main character running and here we tried to capture a moment of action which is fast pace. This allows us to connect more with our audience as it brings them right into the moment like they are with the person. The way we filmed it was also with a Fig Rig and was done with one of us running belong side the character holding the camera at a steady angle. One thing that we found was difficult filming this particular scene was running with the camera whilst keeping the main characters legs in the centre of the camera and the way we other came this was running at a slower pace this means we may have to speed up the footage when it comes to editing.

Demo Filming (P.O.V Scene)(Planning)

This video we shot in the park was an attempt to bring one of our images from the story board to life. It was a pretty simplistic shot but gave us an idea on what to think about even when filming a practically still shot. What we were trying to go for in this shot was someone hiding/taking cover in a bush and watching in a particular direction waiting for someone. We try to recreate someones point of view and them breathing which is the reason for the camera movement. We used a fig rig so we could purposely sway the camera to look as if it was movement from the character behind.
One way to improve our filming is to not move when filming this particular scene and to keep the camera as steady as possible and only moving it slightly to signify breaths.

Evaluation of prelim film(Planning)

We have come to the end of our short prelim film that we have been creating over the past couple of days. Overall, our end result with what experience we had was not that bad.

During this time, we quickly gained many experience in the time we had with our assigned group. Firstly, working with a group of people whom we only met 2/3 weeks ago. That was something which was challenging as you didn't know what experiences they had and what plans they had for the prelim. So working with a group of people whom I didn't know was a new experience because that way we had more than one idea for our prelim, where we could imbed all of our thought in one project.

Also deciding who had what role during the filming task. As some people in my group were able to use the camera efficiently, whereas others need more help. This was a good way of learning who was most comfortable in what area.

The editing task was a whole new experience, as we had to make the short film look good. In order to do this we used a number of editing software's, which made our movie look very professional. There were some people in our group were editing was their best skills so that was a good thing for our group, as we already had a lead start and made sure that things like, transitions from one scene to the next were smooth and clear and not bumpy and fast.

Whilst filming our first shots, we finalised what shots and angles would be incorporated into our title sequence, which would be useful and effective at portraying our ideas that we want to put across. We did struggle slightly with moving the camera with shots such as tracking and panning shots, however over the course of filming, planning and editing we intend to find a solution to problems with filming. All in all we learnt that things happening around us will limit us to how much we can do, these things include: time, sound, lighting, pedestrians etc.

Task 27- Audience Profile (Planning)

Audience Profiling

The most popular genres within the UK include Animation, Comedy and Action
The genre I have chosen to work in is: Horror
Looking at my previous audience genre preference research, I can conclude that the audience age range of my chosen genre is 16-24, both male and female, middle to upper class as well as those with a disposable income and lastly living in more city and urban areas,
From my research I know that my audience expect suspense from a horror film. Considering it is horror they have high expectations of the fear factor in the film.

In my film I will ensure that there are things that people in this age range can identify with such as setting and types of characters. That way they will be able to empathise with the characters in the film.
Based on my research, my core audience would be young adults specifically around the age range of 16-19. My film is suited to please both genders. I’m aiming mostly for those coming from working/middle class families, that have a disposable income. Specifically, areas in Central London and to go further internationally, cities and town centres. In terms of lifestyles choices, my core audience would especially spend on leisure such as going to the cinema and enjoying general luxuries on a normal to regular basis.
My wider audience on the other hand would include those between the ages of 16-24 Most importantly anyone who prefers the horror genre. Those who spend on leisure such as going to the cinema. I know this because I have identified who I want to target and market my film towards based on their ability and willingness to watch my film.

instituitonal, audience and distribution.. Task 32 (Planning)

 Institutional//Audience//Distribution

Our movie, 'the escaping' will be a mainstream movie. A mainstream movie is associated with commercial success, it is also much more popular form of production than independent movies. With mainstream productions it is shown at complex cinema's, more people are likely to go view it. Also with mainstream productions it targets young people, and that's what our target audience is.

Examples of mainstream horror movies are; unfriended and insidious 3. which have been very popular in the cinema's as well with the young people.

We would have Brain damaged films to distribute our film. This is because they have been a success with distributing low budget horror movies, such as 'the afflicted'. Since 2001 Brain Damage Films has been one of the largest and most respected independent horror film distributors.

Our target audience is 16-24year olds. We decided to opt for this as the genre horror is most popular in this age category.

Audience profile:

Gender: Male//Female
Age: 16-24
Class: working class
Occupation: Work/education

Our wider target audience would be 16+, so this anyone who is interested can watch it. We would attract our wider target audience in a various of ways such as advertising it on social media sites such as Facebook, which our movie would have its own page so our audience can keep up to date where its showing etc. Also it would be advertised on Instagram as many people are using that.

Coraline - opening credits Task 8 (Research)

The Title Sequence of Coraline
At the beginning of the film, it begins with a very eerie and slow soundtrack playing over. The first credit that is presented is the production company of the film, followed by the name of the film (Coraline). We then see the name of the actor playing the main character (Dakota Fanning) followed by the rest of the actors’ names. Initially the credits just appear one after the other against a red background which makes the title sequence seem simplistic. However, as the sequence further develops the camera follows a rag doll floating in the air and being sewed and transformed into a new doll. Simultaneously the credits continue to appear on screen on top of the doll which focuses the audience’s attention on the doll and the credits. They typography of the credits is very simple and does not do much to reflect on the movie but this could be as to not distract the audience so much from the other visuals which set up the storyline. In Coraline the type of title sequence used is a discrete title sequence as it is its own little story within itself. The camera follows a doll and its change in appearance by the long sinister hands. The visuals are disturbing and create a very small narrative before the actual film begins.
Starts off presenting the production and filming companies
Uses a variety of camera shots and angles
Close up shots of these elements of the sequence enhance the sinister tone that the film aims to set

My Blogging  Health Check

I can conclude that I have the ability to make strong analytic points, however I need to be able to use other forms of media to blog alongside text to further make my points clear and even stronger. Additionally my analytical skills could improve especially for my Camtasia as some of the ideas I was putting across weren't precise but very generalised. I will lastly aim to put forward what  I've learnt from the type of planning fir my re-make and what I would change if I were to re-do it.

Individual ideas/outline for a title sequence. Task 24

IDEAS FOR A TITLE SEQUENCE
Through my research I have come to an understanding that a good title sequence is one which adds snippets of the backstory and what is to come in the movie. However, it shows snippets but doesn't tell the audience what exactly happens. A title sequence is what intrigues the audience into wanting to watch the movie.
With this is in mind, I think that my idea of title sequence, with the genre of horror is a pretty good idea. It will include the soundscape of someone chewing gum, a pen tapping, and someone typing on a keyboard. All these listed previously will be the back story of our main character. Something is following her. Main story she goes camping and it follows with her...
This would effectively with our chosen genre which is horror. The ideas associated with camping is that your in the woods, away from your normal surroundings, and you have no help..
Main character would include a girl, because most horror films include a girl as a main character.

Survey monkey feedback Task 12

SURVEY MONKEY EVIDENCE

We decided as group to give out to our target audience whom are young people of the ages of 16-18. This was done so that as a group we have a clear idea of what the preferred genre is and from the results we can conclude that it is comedy and romance. Notwithstanding we will review these results and decide whether we want to do these genres or another genre.

29. Sound Design Planning

29. Sound Design Planning

Genre: Horror

The soundscape includes chewing gum being chewed, a pen being tapped on a table and someone typing on the keyboard at a fast pace. The reason why we used these sound examples was to build tension; alongside suspenseful music, it would have built tension alluding to a climactic moment. This a typical convention of our chosen genre that is horror, due to the simplistic sounds used which create a good build up effect.
