Title sequences:
1) The girl with the dragon tattoo
The movie the girl with the dragon tattoo's genre is crime. drama and thriller. The title sequence starts of with text written on a black screen stating which company made it. Afterward it shows fast moving images of metal objects such as buildings and drains. Then it shows a liquid form which running through the objects which could connote the ink of the tattoo when you get it done. There are many micro analysis which i can identify. In regards of the camera angles there are a range which have been used such as zoomed in, and median shot.
The camera movement is fast and sharp, almost letting our eyes only savour a few minutes of the opening of the film. This title sequence has also used many special effects such as fast-tracked and slow motion. The transitions were also quick which can denote that when the ink of the tattoo had touched the girls body was quick and painful. The sounds which were used were loud and very upbeat almost like when metal clash against each other. Also very demonic, with lots of chanting and yelling.
The mise-en-scene contained a lot of different setting such as one being a building, this was then followed by a coin and blood dripping over it. Also there were certain props used such as chains, blood, and a key board, these can all illustrate the fact that this movie has elements of thriller which are disturbing. Therefore making the audience feel intrigued in wanting to watch it. The type of lighting used was dark lighting denoting the atmosphere of this is going to be sinister one.
The macro elements of the girl with the dragon tattoo from the title sequence is about how the ink is flowing inside the body of this individual and how it has taken over her whole mind and body, this is seen through when the ink comes out of the girl's mouth and also the part where the girl has something wrapped around her mouth and she is wanting to get out, let the audience have a quick pre-view that this movie is not straight forward there are many twists and turns. So far from this title sequence we can assume that our main character is a girl...
2) Fast and Furious 7
Next I will be analysing the movie Fast and Furious 6. This movie falls in the genre of Thriller, crime and action. The title sequence begins with 3sec of a blank screen with an upbeat music playing. Just from this we can already tell that it is most likely to be an action movie as it is very jumpy and loud. Next we are introduced to a plane caught on fire and exploding. This also contributes to the elements of a action movie. As the title sequence is going on, and the images of cars racing and crashing the use of sound effects play in hand with the genre of thriller. As when a car crashes that is the sound we hear and the music is at a low volume. The camera movements in this title sequences are very limited. For example, one image would be shown and the camera would pan this and focus on this for at least 3-4 seconds, before going on to the next image and doing the same. This is a good way of remembering certain parts of the film, so the audience are expecting some thing like this to happen.
The mise-en-scene- used in Fast 7 are cars, which is what the movie is about. And also the props which were used were guns which are the conventions of a action movie. The lighting in some scenes used were very bright, for example when the plane crashed the lighting was very bright which made the explosion seem like it was all of a sudden that it happened. This could be intriguing to the audience. At one point of the title sequence there was scuffle where the characters are fighting, this is again illustrating the conventions of action genre with fighting.
3) Taken 3
Taken 3 is in the genre thriller, action and suspense. The title sequence starts off with the credits and then 2 seconds later it shows the location which could possibly be where the main events of the movie could be taking place. The camera angles shown are high angles as well as birds eye view. This allows the audience to have a clearer view of the whole city and the location. Editing techniques were used such as tracking from one scene to the next and panning, following it through scene by scene.
I'm assuming natural lighting was used, as it was shot in the dark and then editing technique were put in action to make all the little lights even brighter. In this this title sequence the audience was not introduced to any characters so we can not discuss the costume or make up.
The sound was very light almost letting the audience believe that this movie was going to be a calm and tranquil one, as it wasn't upbeat or loud which is quite typical in a thriller movie. Special sound effects were not of use in this part of the title sequence.
