Target Audience research..
The three genres that were most successful in the U.K were
animation, action and comedy.
We conducted our audience research and found out that our
target audience liked were either Comedy or animation. However, as a group we
decided to go for horror as our genre.
The type of audience whom like horror would be anyone who
enjoys the thrill the movie gives them or someone who enjoys being scared as
they know that it is fiction. The ages for males could be 12+, who are in the
working/middle class status. It is said that men are able to sit through a
horror movie and actually enjoy it. This could be due to the fact of gender socialisation.
Boys are taught how not to be scared of anything, and be strong. Whereas, girls
are socialised that to be ‘damsel in distress’, waiting for her ’perfect hero’ to
come and sweep her away.
From analysing horror movies for quite a while, I have come
to realise that what makes a good horror movie is that it has all the scares,
and shrieks at the right time. It’s not overdone and is actually scary. In order to make sure my film is a good horror movie, I will have your average teenager living her life and then that way my target audience can empathise with her, and throughout the movie.
Based on all the information I have found i can either conform to the 'stereotypical' male for a horror movie. However, because this is the 21st century i have decided to counter this attitidue and choose a female who is a young teenager of the age 16. So far she can be described as your average teenager who goes to colleges, works parts time, and has a great time with her friends in the weekend.
My wider audience would be a females/males who were young adults as that it is not restricting who can watch the movie. i know this because of the research I've been doing on horror movies.
