What is the purpose of a title sequence? -Task 3.

What is the purpose of a title sequence and film opening?

There are many purposes of a title sequence. One of the main purpose of a title sequence is to showcase  the cast and credit members who were involved in the making of the production for example the actors, the directors, the makeup artists etc. Another purpose is to indicate to the viewers the genre of the movie and what the movie is going to be about, they could do this by showing a specific location in the movie, or the setting of the movie, they could also show little snippets of the movie so that the audience gain a idea of the genre of the movie and the different things that will be happening throughout.

The purpose of a film opening is to make the viewer gain an understanding of what the movie is going to be about so that they can set expectations. it allows them to look forward to watching the film because if the opening to a film is good then the viewer will become intrigued to carry on and see the movie deliver to its standards.

In the movie 'Forrest Gump' the title sequence is fairly simple as the makers of the production are credited whilst the movie is beginning and this continues throughout the opening of the film.  we know the movie is going to be more on the romantic/calm side rather than a more action based film because of the piano thats playing in the opening of the film. We can see a feather swiftly moving in their air in a small town in America then gently landing near a male persons feet. He then picks up the feather and places it inside of his suitcase. This indicates that perhaps he is going on a journey because his suitcase also included clothing which most probably belonged to him. He is waiting at the bus stop, ready to begin his journey.
